Discovery Sharing

Discovery Sharing
On Thursday, Whenua came over and looked at our discovery learning. I was part of Mrs Kennedy Environment and sustainability pollution group. We made a mobile creation. The best thing about sharing the  mobile was how many students came to look and read the information. My group each took turns sharing the information to people who wanted. If I could change anything about the mobile it would be the position. It was right by the couch so Whenua had go around one way bumping anybody looking at another group’s creation.

When I was sharing I was feeling proud and nervous. Proud because with the time we had we made a successful creation explaining the 7 pollutions. Nervous because I haven’t ever shared something in front of a crowd.

Holidays

Holidays

In the term 3 holidays I went to Tauranga with my family, while in Tauranga we went to Baywave and Bayfair. We went to Bayfair first to have lunch because after a long drive we all need some food. My brother and I had Sushi while mum and dad had kababs. The sushi rolls were huge and yummy! We did a little shopping in some shops that include Whitcoulls and New World.

Before we left home mum had promised that we would go to Baywave, and so we did after Bayfair.
Baywave was right opposite Bayfair. We were lucky because right when we put on our togs and went to the pool, the waves were on. Dad said that they only turned on waves every half hour.

They were huge.
Down at the deep end I couldn't touch the bottom. The pool was oddly shaped but in a good way. There was a curved corner, kids would stand next to the corner and be knocked over by the waves. That was fun but sometimes painful. I made a drawing of the pool, see:
I highly recommend this place.

After our swim we went to Gengy's for dinner. It was a yummy dinner. I had 4 main meals and 2 desserts. After dinner we went home.

Our first subject is Literacy planet and Matfic. Here are the including options in this area:

iDrive review

iDrive review

In iDrive this year my most enjoyable session is yoga which I did with Mrs Lindsay. It was fun because I am always so stressed when I’m at school and home. I now have breathing exercises that I can use when I am in distress.

I should probably explain what iDrive is before I carry on. iDrive is on a Friday, Whenua joins Whetu on a hour of fun learning. We must use lots of Learning Powers and I Care. Here are some of Learning Powers and I Care that stand out to me: Growth mindset, resilience, courage, work together as a team and we can’t do this yet.

For cars, blocks and animals I was put to the test, because my group found it hard to complete the city we were building. When we were trying to build a wall around the city it fell down a lot. But we didn’t give up and in the end the wall was completed and we got to play the game that we had planned.

If I could change any session of iDrive this year I would change so I could be here for every iDrive this year because I have missed out on 3 sessions and I only just missed sandpit last week so I need to wait a term till I can do what I missed.

And last of all, if I could make or add  a new workshop  I would add in Literacy planet/Matific one.

My favourite quote.

My favourite quote.
I made this quote up because no other quote had that ‘wow’ I needed. This quote I enjoy is one I think of alot in my learning. When I am at a tough question I leave it out till the end.

It is a very true quote that I think most people use but do not say it. It is an awesome inspiration for my mindset for I can leave a question out then be able to go back. I encourage this quote to be able to go through the minds of others. I have found it brings the remainder of don’t rush, take your time and play the right cards. The author of this quote is me, Makayla.

If I won the lotto!

If I won the lotto!

I would buy the following items with my lucky 1,000,000 dollars. I have always wanted to go to Hawaii because my mum has traveled the world but she never went to Hawaii. And I believe it is never to old to travel. I want to stay at a cool hotel that has many activities so Jesse and I can have lots of fun while mum and dad can relax. The hotel I chose has many activities and has relaxing areas such as a spa pool and a massage place.

I want to buy a cat bed for my cats because they always find other boxes and containers to sleep in. They keep wrecking all of the boxes. So I really want a Real Bed for them. I would like another home not far my house. Because I absolutely hate it when Dowah goes out into the dark night to her room. I found this section outside my own house on the new road in Ngatea. If I could really buy the house I would, because on both houses I could make a gate so Dowah can come to my house and all my family could go to hers. (Also Jesse and I could have sleepovers).

The last thing that I would buy is some jewellery for mum and Dowah. Because even though they have heaps I think they still might like more. I choose a watch from Trade me for mum because she doesn't have any and since she with St John she needs to know the time when she’s taking someone's pulse. And I choose a greenstone necklace for Dowah because I know she likes different stones and she likes wearing necklaces so I thought it may be the perfect present for her. (It is Dowah and mum’s birthday coming up!)

I know I still have heaps of budget left but I am wishing to put it in the bank so I can use it when I need it or in other words Wisely.

Term 2 Holidays

Term 2 Holidays

These holiday I went to Mount Ruapehu before a snowstorm that trapped campers but more on that later. I should probably start at the beginning. My family and I were just coming from Napier where my mum’s friends lived, to go to the snow. My brother Jesse and I didn’t know where our parents were taking us but we were excited. When we looked out the car's window we noticed the three mountains: Mount Ruapehu, Mt Ngāuruhoe and Mount Tongariro. Since my dad’s car had four wheel drive we could go all the way up the mountain and not take a bus.

At the bottom of Mount Ruapehu there was a very fancy hotel where people could stay in at night but my mum was prepared and booked us in a Motel in a little town called Turangi. We could only go so far up the mountain to a car park. We got all dressed up for the snow. I felt as comfy as a cat by a warm fire. It was nice to be in the snow again. We caught a bus to go up to the resort. We saw heaps of people coming or going from, or to, the white glistening glitter. While mum and I got our sledding tickets, Jesse and dad waited outside. We had a look at where we would be tobogganing and maybe skiing. We were on a tall rocky cliff. When we went to go down the lift we found that there was two lifts but only one was working. Mum and dad told us the rules and then we went to do some tobogganing. The first time I went down I was so slow and I had to push myself with my feet. I looked behind me and I saw my parents shooting down the slope with speed! After a few times down the slope I got the idea of how to control and brake. Since we sled down, we still needed a way up. There were 2 options, 1 what I called the snail because it is sooooooo slow and 2 walk carrying you toboggan up a kind-of steep hill where lots and lots of rocks live. I chose the walk most of the time. If you looked up there were big rock walls.

One time I was going up the walk I didn't know that I was making a ICE ball not a snow ball and I through it at dad. I somehow hit right near his mouth even when his back was facing me. He crouched down on the ice to stop his anger. It started to bleed but he carried on. At the end of the day we left to go to the Motel. We got to go in the motel’s spa. It was SO relaxing after a fun day in a cold mountain. We were lucky to leave the next day because it was predicted to have a snow storm. When we got home we looked at the news and it told us that the snow storm did hit and it trapped 200 and something people. Aren't we glad we escaped.

Celebrating my Learning!

Celebrating my Learning!

So far this term I have had a ‘aha’ moment when I accomplished my maths goal. It was because when I do AWS it has these questions like: Order these numbers from largest to smallest and so on, I didn’t read the question correctly so I thought it was: Order these numbers Smallest to largest. I have now figured out that in should reread a question before I answer it. By the way my goal was: Order 2-digit whole numbers.

But I have accomplished other goal than just order 2-digit whole numbers. I have also accomplished another goal which is rereading part of a story so that I can understand what it means. I have worked and accomplished this goal by reading my book club role during DEAR time. (DEAR stands for Drop Everything And Read.)
I am also working on other goals such as:
  • Calculate the volume of an object
  • Identify words I don’t understand and find out their meaning.
  • Use language features e.g. alliteration, similes, metaphors and descriptive adjectives.

I hope I will achieve the goals above before term 3.
